CHURCH MANIPULATIONS MAY LEAD TO ANOTHER APRIL 7 – ALEXANDRU TANASE

CHURCH MANIPULATIONS MAY LEAD TO ANOTHER APRIL 7 – ALEXANDRU TANASE

“If Church becomes an object of manipulations, we risk to have another April 7 on religious background”, thinks Minister of Justice and first Vice Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party Alexandru Tanase.

On Monday night at ProTV channel, Tanase classified the intentions of the ex-Chief of Information and Security Service Valeriu Pasat to promote himself in politics with the help of Church as unlawful.

“From the legislative point of view, students cannot be obliged to attend the classes on Orthodoxy Fundamentals. This is against the Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Only parents have the right to decide in what way, when and what religion must their children study. Those who want to be devout do not need to be imposed to attend classes”, said Tanase.

According to him, there is nothing more compromising for the Church as its implication in politics.

“It is regrettable that the Church let itself be dragged in politics, moreover that there is nothing that threats Orthodoxy in the country where more than 90% of citizens are Christian Orthodox”, said Tanase.

Chairman of Parliamentary Commission for Social Protection, Healthcare and Family, Liberal Democrat Deputy Liliana Palihovici mentioned there are cases, when priests oblige professors to sign up at the initiative of referendum.

“We received two letters on this matter from Causeni raion and asked the local authorities to register this cases”, she said.

Vice Chairman of the Party of the Humanists Ion Mereuta said that Church intervenes in the politics because it has to protect against the influence of other religious organizations. He mentioned that the current Liberal Democratic Deputy Valeriu Ghiletchi was the Bishop of the Baptist Church.

Education Councilor of the Bessarabian Metropolitan See, father Vlad Mihaila stands for introducing the religion in schools. At the same time, he recognizes that “the Church and the clergy do not have the right to favor or intervene in the elections campaign”.

Infotag's dossier: Valeriu Pasat was elected Chairman of the Party of the Humanists of Moldova last Saturday. He initiated a referendum on compulsory studying of Orthodoxy Fundamentals in schools. The Metropolitan of Chisinau and All Moldova Vladimir declared the Church’s full support of Pasat’s project.
