MARIAN LUPU COULD HAVE BECOME PRESIDENT IN 2009 IF ACCEPTED COMMUNISTS' CONDITION
According to Democratic Party member Andrei Popov, DPM leader Marian Lupu could have been elected president in December 2009, if he had accepted the Moldovan Communist Party (MCP) proposal.
Popov said in an interview that MCP had promised Marian Lupu’s party a mojority in the Government if DPM would made an alliance with the communists.
“In December 2009 the MCP made a clear proposal to Marian Lupu, and he could have been voted and elected as a Head of the state. If he had wanted it, it could have happened. But Lupu adhered to his principles and agreements with the AEI, and he manifested a common sense to meet his engagements”, said Andrei Popov.
Prime Minister Vladimir Filat commented on Lupu’s accusations and said that all AEI obligations and agreements of 2009 parliamentary elections are not valid for the 2010 elections. Filat said the AEI must establish new principles and engagements for this electoral campaign.
Marian Lupu said that Filat betrayed ruling alliance principles by manifesting his intention to run for presidency in November.
