MIHAI GHIMPU CLAIMS RUSSIA INTERFERES INTO MOLDOVA’S HOME AFFAIRS
Liberal Party Chairman MP Mihai Ghimpu has accused the Russian Federation of its interference into the Republic of Moldova’s home affairs.
Ghimpu stated on the ProTV Chisinau Channel that, for instance, Moscow is interfering in the presidential election question in Moldova “by means of the so-called Dodon group”.
“All what is being done in this direction is done for the purpose of preventing Ghimpu from becoming Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament”, he stated confidently. “May I ask, why on Earth Russian Ambassador Valery Kuzmin cavils at the Ghimpu Stone [“The Commemoration Stone for Victims of the Soviet Occupation and Totalitarian Communist Regime”, as the object was officially called on the day of its unveiling in the city’s central square on June 27, 2010, when Ghimpu was Acting President, and by whose order the stone was erected before the Government Building in the city’s central square]? Moscow is unable to promote its interests in Moldova by means of non-governmental organizations and its Embassy in Chisinau, so it resorts to political parties. Look at Socialist Party Secretary General MP Igor Dodon. Wham-bam and he is already in Moscow! His party is directed from the Kremlin”.
Concerning the constitutional referendum, Mihai Ghimpu voiced regret that some of his AEI colleagues want to give up the idea.
“If only the referendum fails to be held, it will be our greatest error, for this will mean an early parliamentary election and the governing alliance’s death”, presumes Mihai Ghimpu, whose party won merely 10% at the last parliamentary election held in November 2010.
In his opinion, the incumbent Parliament has no chance of electing a President, “especially by the secret ballot”, as the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova demands.
In his words, the AEI cannot trust Igor Dodon and his other two comrades in the so-called Dodon group – MPs Zinaida Grechanaya and Veronica Abramciuc – in a sense that nobody can guarantee that they will vote for a president.
“They do not offer us their votes – they put forward conditions concerning who will be elected and how. This cannot be regarded as help for the AEI. This means they are trying to stub a knife into the AEI. If you really want to overcome a crisis, don’t put conditions. But no, they want to kill two birds with one stone – to not let Ghimpu become Speaker and not let Lupu become President”, said the Liberal Party leader.
