MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE CONCERNED WITH COURSE OF SOWING CAMPAIGN

Chisinau. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry is concerned with the course of the spring sowing campaign.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Anatol Gorodenco said at a special sitting with the participation of responsible workers that works have been conducted only on an area of 776.3 thousand hectares.
It is almost by 20% less against the same period of 2007. The delay was cause by rains, which already exceeded the annual norm. However, it instills hopes that it will be a favorable agricultural year. We must maximally use the good weather in order to complete the sowing campaign before May 20, he said.
According to the Minister, in 14 raions the sown area is on the average lower then the average in the republic. For example, in the Nisporeni raion spring crops were sown on 13% of agricultural lands, in the Chisinau municipality – on 15%, in the Rezina, Edinet, Dondiuseni and Cahul raions – less than 30%.
Gorodenco said that 40 million lei were spent for acquiring 3.5 thousand tons of diesel for sowing.
“We distributed 823 tons of high-quality seeds among 82 thousand farmers. There are 270 million lei in the fund for subsidizing agrarian sector in 2008. Twenty million out of 18 million lei, designed for subsidizing the agrarian sector have been already used”, he said.
The Minister remarked that remarked that 43 million lei are reserved and 300 missile launchers are ready for combating hail in 2008.
