LDPM CALLING ON COMMUNIST AUTHORITIES TO GIVE CONFISCATED PROPERTY BACK TO DEPORTED CITIZENS
04.07.2008
Chisinau. The Liberal Democratic Party has called upon the Communist authorities of Moldova to prove in deeds their responsibility for resolving the problems faced by former deported citizens, particularly in what concerns their political and social rehabilitation and receipt of their confiscated property back.
The LDPM today issued a statement saying that this July 5 will mark the 59th anniversary since the beginning of the mass-scale forcible deportation of ‘unreliable’ residents of Moldova over to Siberia and other remote northern regions. In 1949 alone, over eleven thousand families were thus displaced thousand of miles away from their homes, and their dwellings and other property in Moldova were confiscated by the Stalinist Soviet regime.
“But even now the deportation victim rehabilitation process is advancing at a snail’s pace because it is extremely over-bureaucratized. Very few people have, so far, succeeded in getting their homes back. And financial compensation offered for the property thus lost is far from enough to cover the damage and sufferings caused during the years spent forcibly in Siberia”, presumes the LDPM.
Its leadership also demands that the modern Communist authorities and the Chisinau Municipality must speed up the erection of a monument to victims of Stalinist repressions that took place in 1941-1949.
