PLUGARU, PETRACHE WARNING AGAINST DICTATORSHIP OF MINORITY

11.03.2010Lawyers Anatol Plugaru [Moldova’s Minister of State Security in 1991-1992] and Mihai Petrache [ex-Chairman of the Centrist Union of Moldova] presume that after the downfall of the Communist dictatorship in July 2009, Moldova seems to be entering a new trend – consolidation of the dictatorship of a minority. That’s how the two free-lance lawyers perceive the yesterday’s decision of the governing Alliance for European Integration leaders to organize a national referendum on adopting a new Constitution.

DEMOCRATIC YOUTH DEMANDS VOTING CONDITIONS FOR STUDENTS

DEMOCRATIC YOUTH DEMANDS VOTING CONDITIONS FOR STUDENTS

30.06.2009

Chisinau.   The Democratic Party’s youth organization has demanded from the Moldovan Government to provide proper voting conditions for Moldovan students during the July 29 early parliamentary elections.

The DP youth organization issued a statement today, reading that in the conditions of slackly written legislation norms for students’ participation in voting, the mechanisms proposed by the Central Election Commission appear to be inefficient.

The document said, the April 5 voting experience showed that only 3,850 voters submitted applications on their places of staying. The appeal to over 100 thousand students to submit their applications on stay places was made at a moment when most students had already left the republic for summer vacations. Obtaining of a certificate of the right to vote or traveling to one’s university campus for voting is too expensive an undertaking for a student. Moreover, voting certificates are not valid prior to the establishment of electoral bureaus (July 14).

The Democratic youth has requested the Government to organize a free traveling possibility for students to their study places and back home on July 29.

“We presume these will be insignificant expenditures compared with demands to ensure free and correct elections in conformity with the Republic of Moldova’s international commitments. We are convinced this step will only help the Government build up citizens’ trust in it”, the statement said.
