NATIONAL LIBERALS DECIDE TO STAND FOR PARLIAMENT
01.07.2009
Chisinau. The [Vitalia Pavlicenco’s] National Liberal Party has submitted an application and necessary accompanying documents for registration as a contender for the Moldovan Parliament at the July 29 parliamentary elections. If the Central Election Commission finds no irregularities in the papers, it will register the NLP as number 7 candidate for the legislative forum.
Last April 5, the National Liberals ran for parliament on one ticket with the Acţiunea Europeană [European Action] socio-political movement, but the duet polled only 1.01% ballots.
On Tuesday evening, the Central Election Commission held a working meeting and called upon radio and television companies to start casting live electoral debates without delay. The CEC says it is attaching a special importance to such debates as a valuable source of information for citizenry and food for thought.
Also, the CEC has accredited first observers to work at the July 29 elections, namely 65 domestic observers from the Institute for Human Rights in Moldova and 20 international observers from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR).
So far, the first 6 registered parliamentary candidates are: the ruling Moldovan Communist Party, the Christian Democratic Popular Party, the Moldova Noastra Alliance, the Liberal Party, the Liberal Democratic Party, and the Democratic Party.
