PRIME MINISTER PROPOSES TO EXCLUDE MEDIATORS IN MILK PROCUREMENT
02.07.2009
Chisinau. Mediatory companies must be excluded from the milk procurement process. This is the opinion by Prime Minister Zinaida Grechanaya, who visited the Lactis dairy enterprise in Riscani.
According to the governmental press service, the Prime Minister met a group of people, who complained that the milk purchasing price from physical persons, who grow cows at their farms, is too low, whereas the mediatory companies, which procure milk from its producers, do not observe their payment liabilities.
In this context, Zinaida Grechanaya charged the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry with studying this situation and spoke out for excluding mediators from the milk procurement process.
The Premiers said that the creation of middle-sized cattle farms can give a solution for providing the country’s food security. Zinaida Grechanaya remarked that the Government offers subsidies in the amount of 30 lei per each kilo of live weight to specialized farms.
In the course of her visit to the Lactis dairy enterprise its Director Gheorghe Angheluta informed the Prime Minister that the enterprise has difficulties in the sale of its products at the internal market because of the mass imports of cheeses from Ukraine and Belarus.
In Angheluta’s words, by the present moment the enterprise accumulated about 440 tons of cheeses and 45 tons of butter, for which there is no demand at the internal market. The enterprise manager asked for assistance on the part of the state in protecting the milk market and explained that the local products must severely compete with imported products.
The Prime Minister reassured the enterprise heads that she will study the situation at the hard cheese market, in order to protect Moldovan producers and to create conditions for a fair competition at the internal market.
The milk purchasing price constitutes 2.8-3.2 lei. A liter of fresh milk is sold for 5-6 lei.
