03.02.2010
Tiraspol. At tackling the Transnistria conflict, the OSCE Kazakhstan presidency shall be abiding by such fundamental principles as patience and transparency, Mr. Bolat Nurgaliyev, the Presidency Special Representative, stated during his meeting with Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov here on Tuesday.
Nurgaliyev said his country shall be an honest mediator, respect the positions of both Moldova’s and Transnistria’s, and shall be acting energetically, no matter time or expenditures.
“We shall be focusing primarily on solving vital questions pertaining to the life of the grassroots, who have found themselves in a hard tough situation beyond their will”, said the OSCE representative.
Igor Smirnov reaffirmed that the conflict settlement efforts must be targeted not at talks for the sake of talks, but at a concrete solving of questions that influence the life of people both in Transnistria and Moldova. First of all, he believes, the sides must outline two main directions in their joint work – a political and an economic one.
Summing up the results of his meetings in Chisinau and Tiraspol this seek, Bolat Nurgaliyev said there are topics on which the negotiation parties can work out new approaches that will help further develop what OSCE representatives started last year.
He said, consultations of all participants in the Moldo-Transnistrian settlement process will be held in Vienna on March 1, with negotiations to be held in various formats. The Kazakhstan diplomat believes the event should give a new impulse to the development of the dialog, and should help determine concrete steps for nearest months.
