MoE TO WORK OUT PROGRAM FOR REORGANIZATION OF ENERGY SECTOR

03.02.2010

Chisinau. The Ministry of Economy will work out a program for the reorganization of the energy sector, in order to raise its efficiency and to improve its competitiveness and to solve the problem of arrears, Vice-Premier, Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar said at a sitting of the governmental commission on the improvement of the situation in the energy sector.

He remarked that the problems of the energy sector must be solved within 4-5 months, though the arrears of energy enterprise to Moldovagaz reach 2.3 billion lei.

Prime Minister Vlad Filat demanded from National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) to conduct the audit of the energy enterprises, to clear up the real situation and to determine measures for the withdrawal out of the crisis.

“The complete analysis of the energy sector must be carried out not only in respect of the tariffs, but also of functional problems”, he underlined.

Union Fenosa Director for Moldova Silvia Radu informed that the contract with the Energocom company, which provides the purchase of energy from the Moldovan Regional Power Station,  expires in March and in accordance with the Law on the Market Liberalization UF intends to select the most profitable supplier and to conclude a contract with this company.

As Infotag has already reported, Moldova produces one third of the consumed energy. Until the present Energocom has the monopoly right for the imports and exports of electric power. Before 2009 it acquired the remaining volume of energy from Ukraine and from 2009 – from the Moldovan Regional Power Station, which belongs to the Inter RAO EES Russian company. The contract with this company expires at the end of March. After this large energy consumers have the right to select energy suppliers themselves.
