…DEMANDS FROM GOVERNMENT TO MAKE OFFICIAL PROTEST AGAINST ROMANIA’S DECISION TO DEPLOY ANTI-MISSILE SYSTEM

Chisinau. The Moldovan opposition is demanding from the Government to stand up with an official protest against Romania’s intention to deploy anti-missile defense systems on its soil. This demand was formulated in the Resolution adopted last Saturday at the all-republican Communist Party conference.
“The MCP demands from the Government of Moldova to immediately condemn the neighbor Romania’s policy of destabilizing regional security, of creating an atmosphere of cold war and mistrust in the region. The Communist Party is addressing all citizens organizations in the country, to parties and the entire people with an appeal to give a clear and categorical assessment of Romania’s revanchist plans”, the Resolution said.
The Moldovan Communists reminded that the active deploying of anti-missile systems in Europe caused, from the very beginning, a powerful protesting “by the entire European public” and an overt discontent of many countries, and it always added extra differences to inter-state relations.
“It is fully obvious that in conditions when no compromise on the deployment question is being observed between main geopolitical players the nuclear powers, the development of this militarist idea is leading to escalation of tension, first of all on the European continent. Such militarist games are particularly dangerous near conflict regions that are very sensitive to any inter-state controversies of such level”, the Resolution said.
The document authors believe that the projected placement of anti-missile system elements in Romania “is converting our neutral country in fact into a front-line territory of potential confrontation between other states. One may only guess how ruinous these circumstances may be for security strengthening in the region and for a possible settlement of the Transnistria conflict. In such conditions, a constructive approach to the settlement, based on full demilitarization of whole Moldova, on a compromise-like interactions of all the international mediators – Russia, the OSCE, Ukraine as well as of the European Union and the United States, is practically unrealizable”.
The MCP leadership indicated an essential situation-aggravating circumstance – the persistent refusal of Romania, a NATO member country, to conclude a Border Treaty with the Republic of Moldova.
