CE COMMITTEE OF MINISTERS ADOPTS RESOLUTION ON MOLDOVA

The Moldovan authorities have fulfilled the conditions necessary to guarantee the freedom of religion and, hence, one of the commitments before the European Court of Human Rights, the Council of Europe Committee of Foreign Ministers wrote in its Resolution on fulfilling the ECHR decisions concerning the case of the Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia.
The Resolution pointed out the measures undertaken by Moldova to guarantee the freedom of religion, including the passing of the Law on religious cults, amending of the Code of Administrative Offenses, creating of a new mechanism of the registration of religious cults.
Profiled specialists are saying these measures should ensure the correspondence of the national legislation and practices to the European Convention for Human rights and the ECHR practices.

Due to the ECHR judgments on religion-related cases, since 2001 this monitoring has been included into the CE Council of Ministers’ agenda as well.
