MIHAI GHIMPU REPLENISHES NATIONAL ARMY AND POLICE WITH MORE GENERALS
03.09.2010
Moldova’s Acting President Mihai Ghimpu has given the rank of Brigadier General to National Army’s Commander and Chief of Staff Iurie Dominic, to General Headquarters Director Vitalie Stoian, and to Land Troop Commander Igor Cutie.
Presidential decrees to this effect were signed on Thursday, i.e. on the eve of the National Army Day of September 3.
They have thus become first active generals in the Moldovan armed forces after the former Chief of Staff, Division General Ion Corobceanu, had tendered resignation in November 2009.
The rank of brigadier general, though reserve one, has been given also to incumbent Moldovan Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta.
In the Interior structures, Mihai Ghimpu has promoted Deputy Minister, Carbineer Troops Commander Vasile Dragomir to the rank of Brigadier General.
Infotag’s dossier: Moldova’s National Army consists of only about 9 thousand men all inclusive, which is less than the strength of a regular division in most countries, according to existing international practice. However, the Army has several divisions and brigades, its own educational institutions, General Headquarters, several generals, and, finally, its own Ministry of Defense.
