VLADIMIR VORONIN COMMENTS ON GRIGORE PETRENCO’S STATEMENTS

15 july, 2014

“I don’t accept whatever blackmail – either against me personally or against the party I head”, Moldovan Communist Party leader Vladimir Voronin stated at a news conference today, commenting on the statement made recently by a former member of the MCP Political Executive Committee, Grigore Petrenco, that Voronin must allegedly quit the post.

Voronin replied to journalists that “nobody will let themselves be dragged into Petrenco’s political games”.

“His assertions are but his personal opinion, nothing more. Currently he is promoting his personal interests, or perhaps somebody else’s group interests. There are 4-5 plenary meetings left till the expiry of the incumbent Parliament’s mandate. We will return from a summer recess in mid-September, shortly after which we will concentrate on a parliamentary campaign. Therefore, nobody will care to answer Petrenco. As for the MCP list of candidates for the next Parliament, we have already selected 103 candidates, and all of them are MCP members. This is a principally new element in the 2014 election campaign”, said Voronin.

The MCP Chairman demonstrated to journalists what he said were the applications on resignation as MCP Political Executive Committee members signed by Grigore Petrenco, Mark Tkachuk and Iurie Muntean.

“They wrote, signed and submitted themselves their resignation applications. The party’s Political Executive Committee has only fulfilled their request, and nobody expelled them from the party. All of them are remaining MCP members, and Iurie Muntean is even remains a member of the MCP Central Committee. By the way, expulsion issues are tackled not by the Political Executive Committee but by primary MCP organizations”, said Voronin.

Infotag’s dossier: Last July 9, MP Grigore Petrenco convened a press briefing and stated that Vladimir Voronin, with his own actions, had aggravated the domestic situation in the MCP, and that “Voronin lies when he says that we have voluntarily resigned as members of the MCP Political Executive Committee. If this is true, ask Voronin to show our retirement applications. Such applications do not exist!” stated Grigore Petrenco.

In his words, the recent Plenum of the MCP Central Committee, when the above-mentioned three members were withdrawn from the MCP Political Executive Committee, “marked in fact a seizure of the Communist Party by oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc”.

“Voronin has betrayed everybody, and has surrendered the Communist Party to Plahotniuc [First Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Party] before an approaching parliamentary election. He has sold the party to “the puppeteer” – the one against whom we have struggled tirelessly all these last years. Voronin and the MCP will now be playing the role of the tame opposition on a short leash”, said Petrenco.

“But the MCP will all the same win the elections, but without Voronin. We demand an extraordinary congress of the party and election of a new leadership. Voronin must admit his mistakes, repent of them and must go – without nominating his candidacy at the would-be election of a party chairperson”, stated Petrenko.
