24 july, 2014

EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Ciolos has stated that the European Union seeks for new possibilities to provide assistance to Moldovan agricultural producers, who have suffered from Russia’s ban on import of Moldovan fresh and canned fruit and vegetables.

On Wednesday, Dacian Ciolos has discussed this issue with the European Commissioner for Trade Karel de Gucht, European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule, as well as with Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Natalia Gherman.

The EU is looking for solutions to facilitate the access of Moldovan plums, apples, grapes to the European Market and tries to use the opportunities of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA), as well as other instruments, said Ciolos.

According to him, it is very important that Moldova use in full its quotas on the EU market, as well as the possibility of the market diversification for its products.

He underlined that both sides are doing their best so that the RM-EU Association Agreement to come in force earlier and producers to be able to take advantage of the provided opportunities of coming to the EU market.
