MOLDOVA TO TAKE PART IN NATO SUMMIT FOR FIRST TIME

30 july, 2014

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman has reported in an interview to the radio station Europa Libera that for the first time Moldova will participate in the NATO summit, which will take place in early September.

“It is an important event for Moldova. This year, through its armed contingent in the International Force Mission in Kosovo (KFOR), Moldova contributed to the successful implementation of the North Atlantic Alliance missions to maintain security and stability on the European continent. Moldova is not only a consumer of security in this European zone, but also a country that contributes to security strengthening. Thanks to this, we are firstly invited to the summit of the Alliance”, said Natalia Gherman.

She also gave a high assessment to the resolution of the USA Senate in Moldova, which expresses support for the territorial integrity of the Republic and requires the withdrawal of Russian troops from Moldova territory.

“This is a very important message that no one can ignore. The United States of America, in fact, consistently promote this objective in the framework of bilateral Russian-American dialogue and within the framework of international organizations. The NATO summit will be held in early September. We can rely on the fact that Moldova’s allies in NATO will also make such address”, said Natalia Gherman.

At the same time, she strongly supported the cooperation with the Russian Federation and the continuation of the negotiations on all issues.

She noted that the delegation of the Moldovan government is in three days in Moscow for holding another round of consultations in trade and economic spheres.

“We are negotiating with Russia, but we continue to seek new markets. What is happening now makes us and our agricultural producers to be more creative in finding new markets”, said Natalia Gherman.

According to her, Russian consumers, who got accustomed to the quality of Moldovan agricultural products and who have now lost it, will suffer first of all. She also noted that Moldova will re-orient its export not only to EU countries but also to other countries and regions. Recently, the Minister held talks with representatives of the Arab countries, for example Qatar, which could buy more Moldovan agricultural products and sell them to the countries of the Persian Gulf.
