ROGOZIN ADVISES LEANCA TO BE MORE RESPECTFUL TOWARDS RUSSIA

19 august, 2014

The Russian President’s Special Representative on Transnistria, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin has advised Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca to treat Russia with greater respect.

Rogozin commented on his Facebook page Iurie Leanca’s interview with BBC, in which the Moldovan premier criticized Dmitry Rogozin.

“I have a respectful attitude to the Moldovan people. But as for their Chisinau bosses, there are some questions to them. And as for Mr. Leanca and his interview are concerned, I guess that this beginning politician should be more respectful to Russia and its official representatives – at least from purely pragmatic considerations”, wrote the Russian Deputy Prime Minister.

The day before, Leanca criticized Dmitry Rogozin in the said interview for his habit to communicate with the Moldovan authorities by means of his page in the Facebook or Twitter. Moreover, Leanca called some of Rogozin’s statements about Moldova as insulting and unconstructive.

In response to Rogozin’s saying that upon the signature of the Association Agreement with the European Union “Moldova is profoundly changing its neutral status, which is unacceptable to Moscow”, Iurie Leanca replied that even if Moldova is admitted to the European Union, which event is long to wait yet, this does not mean that the republic has to change its neutrality status, for these two things are not at all inter-connected.

“We must only demonstrate (and Russia could and should have helped us here) that neutrality is not a guarantee – it is a necessity that give stability, predictability and security to our country”, said the Moldovan Prime Minister, adding that if Dmitry Rogozin is really such a fan of Moldova’s neutrality, he ought to help Moldova get rid of the Russian 14th Army deployed in Transnistria.
