AGRICULTURE MINISTRY GOING TO REALIZE PREMIER LEANCA’S IDEA – TO BAKE WORLD’S BIGGEST PLACINTA

21 august, 2014

The Moldovan Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry is busy preparing to implement the initiative of Prime Minister Iurie Leanca – to bake the world’s biggest placinta with apples. Placinta is a Moldovan national bakery product – kind of a tart made with various fillings such as apples, pumpkins etc.

On Wednesday, Minister of Agriculture Vasile Bumacov chaired the meeting of a special working group, at which it was decided that the initial plan will be changed a little: the placinta will be not flat and round as the tradition goes, but will be in the form of a roll, called vertuta locally, 50 meters long.

To make such a super-vertuta, bakers will need a pipe 2 meters in diameter to be manufactured by the Mecagro institute of agricultural machines.

It was decided to attract to the baking process best specialists from the Franzeluta [the country’s largest producer of bread and related products], cooks from a Chisinau restaurant and specialists from Moldova-Fruct company.

As already reported by Infotag, the bakery idea occurred to Prime Minister Leanca as a measure to overcome the Russian embargo on Moldovan fruit and vegetables and to somehow underpin local fruit producers. The action, called “Placinta that Unites Us” will be organized in the capital city’s central square on August 30.
