SOCIALISTS BEGIN COUNTDOWN FOR INCUMBENT AUTHORITIES

21 august, 2014

The Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) has begun a countdown for ruling Coalition for Pro-European Governance (CEG).

Party Chairman MP Igor Dodon said at a news conference on Thursday that exactly 100 days remain until the expiry of the coalition’s term of office, “and soon our rulers will come to stand responsibility for their deeds – with full strictness of the law”.

In his words, the authorities have lately redoubled their persecution of the Party of Socialists, having made it the chief target of their attacks.

“We are denied permissions to hold various events. An information war against us is gaining momentum each coming day. Last July 28, the Central Election Commission, acting on the basis of the political decision taken by the Supreme Court by orders of the authorities, did not permit us to organize a referendum to dismiss incumbent Chisinau Mayor – the gravedigger of the Moldovan capital. The Ministry of Finance organizes a thorough check in the PSRM headquarters. The cellular and office phones of party leaders and many activists are tapped. The party office has been under round-the-clock surveillance of the Information and Security Service. And the PSRM leadership, including members of parliament, have been shadowed”, said Igor Dodon.

In his words, the Chisinau Primaria [city government] has refused to give the Socialists the city’s central square for a concert on August 24 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Moldova liberation from the Nazi occupation.

“Despite all this, the PSRM keeps moving to achieve the goals it has set for itself – preservation and strengthening of the Moldovan statehood and national identity, organization of a nationwide referendum on the country’s development vector, and achieving of Moldova’s accession to the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan”, said Igor Dodon.
