MOLDOVA’S EUROPEAN AGENDA TO BE DISCUSSED BY SUPPORT GROUP IN CHISINAU

29 august, 2014

The European Action Group for Moldova will hold its 9th meeting in Chisinau on September 1, which will be attended by the ministers of foreign affairs and state secretaries of European Union member states and by EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule.

The forum will focus primarily on Moldova’s European agenda, particularly the tentative implementation of the Association Agreement with the European Union starting from this September 1, and on defining of possibilities for rendering support to Moldovan farm exports to the EU market. The parties will discuss also the situation in region.

At the end of the meeting, the Moldovan Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman, her Romanian colleague Titus Corlateanu, France’s State Secretary for European Affairs Harlem Desir and Commissioner Stefan Fule will appear at a news conference.

The European Action Group for Moldova was founded in January 2010 on Romania’s and France’s initiative to promote Moldova’s interests and European agenda realization. The Group will hold its meeting in Chisinau for a second time. The first one was organized in the Moldovan capital in September 2010.

Last Thursday, August 28, at the annual meeting of the Romanian diplomacy in Bucharest, Minister Natalia Gherman highlighted the considerable success achieved by Moldova on its European path in 2014, the country’s European agenda priorities, and the high dynamic of Moldova’s cooperation with Romania “in the spirit of the privileged bilateral relations”.

Gherman also underscored the fact that Romania is not solely a strategic partner to the Republic of Moldova but also a very important trade partner that actively backs the republic in promoting its farm products to the EU market in the conditions of restrictions at Eastern markets.

“Moldova’s European choice is not a threat to anybody because the political and economic reforms, realized by Moldova on the basis of European values and EU standards, are eventually bringing stability and prosperity”, said the Moldovan foreign minister.
