OPPOSITION DID NOT AVAIL THEMSELVES OF CHANCE TO VOTE NO-CONFIDENCE IN GOVERNMENT

29 september, 2014

The Moldovan parliamentary opposition did not avail themselves of the possibility to vote no-confidence in the Leanca Government. The Party of Socialists made an attempt to initiate no-confidence, but failed to find support by other deputies.

At the moment, the only opposition force having a necessary number of votes for initiating the procedure of dismissing the Government is the Communist Party (MCP), with its 34 mandates in the 101-member Parliament of Moldova. However, this time the MCP restricted itself only to addressing to the Constitutional Court concerning the Government’s undertaking responsibility for a package of 7 important bills. So the Communists have not supported the Socialists’ initiative. An intention to address to the Constitutional Court was announced also by the Socialists and Liberals.

As already reported by Infotag, at the working meeting held on September 25, the Moldovan Government shouldered on itself the responsibility for 7 essential bills. According to the existing procedure, if nobody votes no-confidence in the Government 72 hours after the bills’ presentation in the Parliament, these bills shall become laws. A vote of no confidence may be made by a group of not less than 25 deputies. In such case, the Parliament must consider the vote question at a plenary meeting to be convoked within a 3-day rime.

In a similar situation on July 22, the Government took responsibility before the Parliament for 11 draft laws, directed at improvements situation in justice, protecting banking sector and raising pensions and salaries. Then the opposition did not challenge this decision, either.
