VOTING BLOC ASKS TO OPEN MORE POLLING STATIONS IN RUSSIA

16 octomber, 2014

Bashkan [Governor] of Gagauzia Mihail Formuzal, one of the leaders of the tripartite voting bloc “Moldova’s Choice is the Customs Union”, has called upon Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca to open as many polling stations in Russia as only possible to thus ensure the electoral rights of Moldova citizens staying in Russia.

Mihail Formuzal wrote in his letter to the prime minister that he is receiving numerous addresses from such citizens, who want to vote on November 30.

“According to the Election Code, polling stations are opened in localities having minimum 30 voters. Their maximum number may not exceed 3,000 people per a station. This rule works in Moldova as well as outside it”.

“At the previous parliamentary elections in 2010, 49 polling stations were opened in European Union countries, and only 4 (!) stations in the Russian Federation. According to the statistic, there were some 200 thousand citizens of Moldova staying in European countries, which means about 4,000 persons per a station, whereas in Russia, with more than 700 thousand labor migrants from Moldova, the proportion was over 175 thousand people per a station. This is a full discrimination of Moldova citizens”, maintains Mihail Formuzal.
