​CEC PUNISHES FIRST VIOLATORS OF ELECTION RULES

The Moldovan Central Election Commission has announced its punishing first infringers of electoral legislation.

CEC Chairman Iurie Ciocan told your Infotag correspondent following a Commission meeting on Friday night that the Commission had made an official warning to the Christian Democratic Popular Party for its using financial means without forming an election fund.

“Now law enforcement agencies will check the legitimacy of the money, which seems somewhat suspicious to us. The thing is, the CDPP has not formed an election fund, but nevertheless is distributing electoral leaflets and other canvassing materials”, said Iurie Ciocan.

He explained that the said materials are being distributed without whatever invoices or other financial documents. The leaflets contain no indication of where they were printed or in what amount.

“Also, the Christian Democrats are distributing a 64-page brochure with a price of 2 lei printed on it. We will ask the law enforcement to investigate into this, after which we will return to considering the CDPP campaigning. If violations are really revealed, the CEC may demand expulsion of the Christian Democratic Popular Party from the list of election runners”, said Iurie Ciocan.

Besides this, the CEC has withdrawn from the election campaign two candidates – one from the Communist Reformist Party and the other from the Liberal Reformist Party – for their outstanding convictions.

Iurie Ciocan said that by now, absolutely all state officials have submitted documents certifying that they have suspended their main official duties for the election campaign period, and the CEC has no claims to them.
