MP ALEXANDER PETKOV TO RUN FOR PARLIAMENT ON PATRIA TICKET

20 november, 2014

MP Alexander Petkov of the Communist faction will be running for parliament on the election ticket of the Patria Party, Renato Usatii, #1 personality on the ticket, announced at a news conference on Wednesday.

Usatii called Petkov “a bright political figure, who has struggled for last several years consistently and without compromises against oligarchs in Moldova”.

“Alexander Petkov is from that group of Communists, who did not become well-off when the Communist Party was in power, and who did not sold themselves to Vlad Plahotniuc during the last years of staying in the opposition. Strangely, but not a single one from this group of people has been included into the MCP ticket for the 2014 elections. I guess this is not at all a coincidence, and this is exactly why I have invited him to join our party ticket to continue the political struggle”, said Usatii.

Alexander Petkov called his choice “absolutely conscious, made against the background of the unbridled persecution and harassment the authorities are waging against Renato Usatii. This harassment means that Usatii is on the right track of struggle against oligarchs and destructors of the Moldovan state”.

Petkov opinioned that “some of Plahotniuc’s figures of influence, working in the MCP electoral headquarter, are preparing a broad coalition of the Communist Party with the Liberal Democratic Party and Democratic Party”.

“It is my deep conviction that today, like never before, it is vitally important not to let the Plahotniuc’s hydra to strangle the Moldovan statehood. Those who are in power in Moldova currently really have things to lose. That is why their tentacles have penetrated so deeply into the Communist Party, and the motives of such coalition are becoming increasingly monstrous each coming day. Presently, we can hear Vlad Filat saying that he is ready to combat corruption (as if forgetting that he was fired as prime minister on suspicion of corruption), and Vlad Plahotniuc is promising to combat extremism. If things further develop like this, we may well see Mihai Ghimpu becoming a fighter against Moldova’s unification with Romania, and he will be absorbed into the future coalition, too. That’s why I shall be with those who are ready to prevent the Plahotniuc gang from coming to parliament”, stated Alexander Petkov.

He has thus become the second Communist MP, after Grigore Petrenco, to have agreed to join the Patria ticket.
