LDP AND DP PUBLISH THEIR OWN AEM FORMATION AGREEMENT…

26 january, 2015

The Liberal Democratic Party and Democratic Party have published the text of their agreement on forming an Alliance for European Moldova (AEM). On Monday morning, the document text was sent almost synchronously to the local mass media by the parties’ press services.

The document reads that the Alliance for European Moldova is formed proceeding from the need to have a stable and effective power based on consolidation of pro-European forces that realize the need for achieving a compromise in the country’s interests and for consolidation of the society and for withstanding domestic and external challenges.

The document determines the principles, tasks and objectives, the order of AEM functioning, Alliance’s structure, governing bodies, and priorities of its governance program. The AEM regards the strategic course for European integration to be the Republic of Moldova’s national priority, and the AEM’s efforts will be targeted at realization of current and medium-term tasks. Among them will be reforms aimed at raising citizens’ living standards by means of an economic growth, mobilization of foreign investments, creation of well-paid jobs, and a meticulous realization of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement.

“The AEM realizes that European integration should not restrict Moldova’s relations with other partners. Moldova shall be waging a well-balanced, well-thought and intelligent foreign policy. The alliance shall be acting for the purpose of society consolidation, being convinced that the political class must place Moldova’s national interests above political disputes”, said the document.

AEM organs shall be a General Meeting to be convoked as need be but minimum once every 3 months; a meeting of AEM party leaders (convoked weekly); AEM Council, AEM Parliamentary Council, Government Presidium, and AEM Secretariat.

The 49-item document stipulates the order of AEM functioning, of passing decisions, amending the Agreement, and stipulates the responsibility and norms of behavior of each constituent party.

The Agreement stipulates the necessity to consolidate cooperation with other parties but mentions no party names, or receiving the political support of the Communist Party or other partners.

The Agreement has two supplements stipulating the order of distribution of state posts between the LDP and DP in the legislative and executive power branches.

Some time ago, AEM leaders Vlad Filat and Marian Lupu stated that unlike with the Alliance for European Integration, the new Alliance would have no secret supplements to the AEM formation agreement.
