FILAT SAYS HE REGRETS LEANCA’S DEPARTURE

27 february, 2015

Liberal Democratic Party Chairman Vlad Filat stated at a press briefing on Thursday he regards as “unfounded and regrettable” the decision taken by Moldova’s former prime minister, LDPM First Deputy Chairman Iurie Leanca to leave the organization.

“The decision of any colleague to leave the party is a regrettable event, but in the case of Mr. Leanca it is twice regrettable”, said Filat.

In his opinion, in a time so critical for the country, Leanca’s step “was really not the most correct one”.

“Throughout his prime ministerial office, Iurie Leanca used my assistance and the help of the whole party. After the November 30 elections, we held consistent negotiations on continuing his mandate. But that failed to be achieved – for reasons not depending on us. From our part, we have done all we really could”, said the LDPM leader.

Filat disagreed with Leanca’s opinion that the Liberal Democratic Party has allegedly betrayed the country’s European course.

“Continuation of Moldova’s European course, implementation of the reforms stipulated in the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement are remaining the chief objectives of the LDP/DP alliance and of the new Moldovan Government. The Liberal Democratic Party will never repudiate the country’s European course or Association Agreement realization”, emphasized Vlad Filat.

Filat voiced regret that Leanca thinks he can help the nation only as a prime minister.
