UNIONISTS MAINTAIN MOLDOVA JUST CAN’T DEVELOP WITHOUT UNIFICATION WITH ROMANIA

18 may, 2015

Unionists, the adherents to the idea of Unire – Moldova’s unification with Romania, are convinced that Moldova’s further development without Romania is just impossible, so they are going to achieve unification within next 3 years.

Last Saturday, the unionists organized a rally in Chisinau's central square with a demand to cancel the travel ban imposed last week on Romanian citizen Gheorghe Simion, the leader of the Civil Platform “Actiunea 2012”, uniting a number of Moldovan and Romanian non-governmental organizations supporting the idea of Unire of the two countries. The rally organizers claimed the event gathered 25 thousand Unire supporters, but the police said – not more than 15 thousand.

Anatol Ursu of the pro-Romania movement Tinerii Moldovei [The Young of Moldova] stated that the rally had gathered “the elite of Moldova-Romania unification fighters – real patriots representing the interests of 3 million residents of the Republic of Moldova”.

In his words, the people of Moldova want to live normally, but this is possible only in case of unification with Romania.

Ursu announced that the movement is beginning the raising of signatures in favor of unification of the two countries “which shall take place next 3 years. We shall succeed in this, and justice will triumph!”

Vitalie Prisacaru of Actiunea 2012 stated that unification is the only possible solution of all problems in Moldova. He said that the rally was to gather much more people, but many buses with people from various provincial areas were halted by the traffic police at the entry to Chisinau and were not permitted into the city.

“But very soon the incumbent power will fall, and brothers from both Prut River banks will get united. He invited the audience to come for another rally on July 5, “which will gather much more people, which will demand unification”.

Claudia Ionita of Actiunea 2012 announced the foundation of a new organization called National Unity Bloc (Blocul Unitatii Nationale), and invited candidates running for mayors, who are ready to support unionists and their demands, to sign a “Pact for unification, Pact for Europe”.

After the rally, its participants marched from the central square over to the Russian Embassy, where they chanted, “Russia, don't forget, Bessarabia is not yours”, “Russian troops out from Moldova”, “National unity”.

Then they marched over to the American Embassy, chanting “Chisinau and Bucharest are two Romanian hearts”, “Romania, don't forget, Bessarabia is yours”, after which the column moved to the Romanian embassy, where they sang the national anthem of Romania and continuously chanted “Unire!”

The rally ended in the Chisinau's central square again, where the tireless marchers received packages with information materials.

And on Sunday, the unionists traveled to the Romanian border – to the Leuseni/Albita border-crossing station, where Gheorghe Simion, the leader of the Civil Platform “Actiunea 2012”, was present. There, they unfolded a big tricolor and demanded to let the unionist into Moldova.
