​BRITISH EMBASSY LAUNCHES WEBSITE AND ALBUM OF EU PROJECTS IN MOLDOVA

The British Embassy in Chisinau has launched a website and an album of European Union projects under way and already completed in Moldova.

It was said at the news conference on Thursday that all-out information about the projects, realized or yet being realized in Moldova with the assistance rendered by EU member countries, is available at www.euprojects.md in three languages – Romanian, Russian and English.

Ambassador Pirkka Tapiola, Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, said the website is called to reach the heart and mind of every Moldovan and to furnish technical and financial assistance, whereas reforms proper have to be put into life by Moldova citizens themselves.

“The European Union invests in Moldova because we are not indifferent to the future of its citizens. We stimulated rural residents, having provided 3,200 grants to them for the development of their small and medium businesses. Thank to this, 1600 enterprises and companies were established in rural localities and up to 2 thousand jobs appeared ”, said Pirkka Tapiola.

British Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Philip Batson said that the album describes 19 realized projects financed by 10 European Union member countries. The album will be distributed free of charge among state institutions, Raion [district] Councils, banks and at post offices.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden to the Republic of Moldova, Ingrid Tersman, believes that it is necessary to develop small and medium enterprises in Moldova to make them Moldovan economy’s backbone and basis.

Ingrid Tersman said that with the assistance of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, 90 companies were created for lady entrepreneurs over last 3 years, and they have built up their turnovers by 23% on the average.

“Financing and access to EU markets promote the Moldovan economy’s growth. The Program “Women in Business” is a unique project, and the Government of Sweden is expanding it for other Eastern Partnership countries as well”, said Ambassador Tersman.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Slovakia to Moldova, Robert Kirnag, said that Moldova is “a top-category priority” to his country. The project on provision of potable water for the village of Desghingea in Gagauzia provided local residents with high-quality running water.

“A couple of days ago we signed an agreement on furnishing 6 grants for southern region – Taraclia, Gagauzia, for northern Moldova, as well as for Transnistria. Developing in the European Union, we can now render financial assistance for Moldova, too”, said Ambassador Kirnag.

Infotag’s dossier: The website euprojects.md is a project initiated by the British Embassy with the financial assistance provided by the Embassy of Lithuania to Moldova. And the Album “European Union Projects in Moldova” was published with the British Embassy’s help. Both the website and the album have been created within the framework of the European Union’s information program on the European Union’s support for Moldova realized with the assistance of Great Britain, Sweden, Romania, Lithuania and the United States, and with participation of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova and of member countries of the European Union and the EBRD.
