LIBERAL DEMOCRATIC, LIBERAL AND COMMUNIST COUNCILORS ELECT LEADERSHIP FOR CAUSENI RAION

06 july, 2015

The Causeni Raion Council [regional legislature] has elected its new Chairman – Ion Ciontoloi, a Liberal Democrat and a former deputy of parliament. His candidacy was supported by Raion Councilors from the Liberal Democratic Party, Communist Party and Liberal Party, while the Democrats, Socialists and EPPM representatives abstained from the voting.

At its constituent meeting on Friday, the just elected new Raion Council formed 5 factions – LDP (10 mandates), DP (7), MCP (6), PSRM (4) and the 3-member faction of the European People’s Party of Moldova (EPPM). The Liberals, having only 2 mandates, had no right to form a faction, for which minimum 3 people are required by the law.

So far, only factions have been formed: none of the councilors has spoken out for making an alliance or for transition into the opposition.

At the said meeting, the deputies elected also three Deputy Chairmen of the Cahul Raion – Sergiu Gogu (LDP), Veaceslav Nigai (MCP) and Iurie Turtureanu (LP).

Ion Ciontoloi is thus beginning his 3rd term of office as a Raion Chairman.
