MAIA SANDU PUTS FORTH PRECONDITION, AND HENCE IS HER DELAYED PRESENTATION AS CANDIDATE FOR PREMIERSHIP

24 july, 2015

The Friday’s pause with the presentation of Maia Sandu as a candidate for the Moldovan prime ministerial post has been due to the precondition, which the so-far Acting Minister of Education Maia Sandu has put forward to the constituent parties of the governing Alliance for European Integration, AEI-3.

According to Infotag’s reliable source close to the alliance negotiations, Maia Sandu is demanding to discharge the National Bank President and the Prosecutor General.

“Sandu is convinced that Dorin Dragutanu and Corneliu Gurin are the chief responsible for the failure to prevent the siphoning off a billion euros equivalent from three Moldovan banks. This condition of her has been discussed by the three AEI party representatives whole Friday. The demand to fire the two officials is strongly reducing Maia Sandu’s chances of becoming the head of government, the more so that her candidacy was disliked from the very beginning by the de facto head of the Democratic Party, Vlad Plahotniuc. No wonder: Plahotniuc would lose most of all if Sandu’s condition is met”, said the source.

The man believes that the Friday negotiations may lead to new differences between the three AEI parties and to the Liberal Democrats’ refusal to nominate Maia Sandu, which is exactly what Plahotniuc and Liberal Party Chairman Mihai Ghimpu have been struggling for.

The Infotag source believes that already on Friday evening the negotiators may announce a new candidate for the premiership. This may well be LDPM Deputy Chairman MP Valeriu Strelet, whose candidature suits all the three parties.
