THREE ALLIANCE PARTIES HOLD NEW ROUND OF CONSULTATIONS ON APPOINTING PREMIER

27 july, 2015

The leaders of the Liberal Democratic Party, Democratic Party and Liberal Party gathered for a new round of consultations to nominate a candidacy for prime minister.

The assembly was held in the DP headquarters in Chisinau and lasted about one hour, after which the party leaders left the place in magnificent limousines with tinted glasses. Like it was last Friday, they used once again the convenient design of the building and its closed inner yard, from which it is possible to rush out in cars without answering the waiting journalists’ questions.

Some sources are already saying that the three parties are no more discussing the candidacy of Maia Sandu, and are trying to find a technocrat who would not be related directly to either of the parties. The sources are naming, for instance, the candidature of former vice-president of the National Bank Veronica Bacalu currently working in the World Bank. In 2012, some people mentioned her as a potential candidate for president of Moldova, but all that remained at the level of rumors, while Bacalu did not even come to Chisinau then.

July 27 marked exactly one half of the period the Parliament is given by law for forming a new government, after previous Premier Chiril Gaburici had tendered resignation on June 12. To form a government, the parliament is given maximum 3 months, and this period expires on September 12.
