​PRESIDENT NICOLAE TIMOFTI SIGNS DECREE ON APPOINTING VALERIU STRELET CANDIDATE FOR PREMIERSHIP

Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti has signed a Decree on appointing LDPM Deputy Chairman MP Valeriu Strelet as candidate for prime ministerial post.

On Monday night, Timofti appeared before the press together with Strelet and stated: “I have signed the presidential decree, having requested Mr. Strelet to start forming a government. We have already held consultations with parliamentary factions. The just formed parliamentary majority in the person of the Alliance for European Integration is ready to back Mr. Strelet. This is very important for a prompt formation of government because the country has been in a complicated situation”, said the President.

The head of state expressed confidence Valeriu Strelet will manage successfully with the difficult tasks standing before the new government.

“I’ve known him for quite long. He has been in politics many years, and has a vast experience of work in parliament. With the support of a majority in the Parliament, he will manage with the work in government as well”, said the president.

According to the presidential decree, Valeriu Strelet has been entrusted to form a government and submit to parliament the new cabinet’s lineup and work program. He has 15 days for this. It is believed, however, that the Parliament will approve the new Government already this upcoming Thursday or Friday.

Valeriu Strelet was born on March 8, 1970 in the village of Tarevca (Rezina Raion). In 1993 he graduated from the History Department of Moldova State University, in 2005 – from the Department of General Economics and Law at Moldovan Academy of Economic Studies (ASEM). In previous years, he held the posts of Chairman of the National Youth League, Deputy Chairman of the Socio-Liberal Party. In October 2007, he became a co-founder and Deputy Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (LDPM). Strelet was elected to parliament in July 2009 and November 2010. From May 2011 to September 2014 he was Chairman of the parliamentary LDPM faction.

Valeriu Strelet is renowned also as a man of business. He is the owner of the Bioprotect Company importing fertilizers and seeds.

Valeriu Strelet has two sons from his first marriage and two daughters from his current second marriage.
