DEMOCRATS SAY LDPM’S CONDITIONS ARE JUST A COVER FOR OWN IRRESPONSIBILITY

18 november, 2015

On Wednesday, the Democratic Party was quick to respond with strong criticism against the conditions put forward by the Liberal Democrats for their participation in coalition-forming negotiations. The Democrats named the conditions “populism and an attempt to conceal the Liberal Democratic Party’s inability to participate in the negotiations”.

In their response press release, the Democrats put forward their counter-demands to the Liberal Democratic Party namely: repay to citizens the billion euros stolen from Banca de Economii [savings bank]; depoliticize the Customs Service and the National Tax Inspectorate, “which are suspected of organizing corruption schemes in LDPM representatives’ favor”.

“We guess that such things should be discussed in a masculine way, with a political maturity, and not by appearing before journalists for a few minutes. If the Liberal Democrats want to learn our position on the LDPM conditions, they should come for a meeting with us instead of resorting to populist actions. The statement made by Valeriu Strelet is just a smokescreen for concealing the party’s irresponsibility and its direct guilt for the situation in the country”, said the DP press release.

“The DP has repeatedly called to negotiations, but the Liberal Democratic Party was the only party that refused to. We thought it was necessary to give them enough time for overcoming their emotions, but it became clear today that the LDPM is standing on its previous positions, rejecting the dialog. The Democratic Party is repeating the need for forming a parliamentary majority and appointing a pro-European government together with all those who really want Moldova to continue its development path”, said the DP press release.

As already reported by Infotag, LDPM Acting Chairman Valeriu Strelet stated at a press briefing on Wednesday that in the current new situation, the formation of a new government on previous conditions is absolutely out of the question, and that the Liberal Democratic Party is putting forth the following demand as a condition for the party’s participation in the coalition-forming negotiations: dismissal of Parliament Chairman Andrian Candu, a Democrat; appointment of a nonpartisan prime minister; and removal of legal institutions out from their current party-and-oligarchic subordination. Strelet particularly emphasized that these conditions are addressed first of all to the Democratic Party [‘owned’ by all-mighty oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc]. Strelet stated that the Democratic Party bears full responsibility for the current political and socio-economic crisis in Moldova.
