PSRM LEADER CALLS ON GAGAUZIA RESIDENTS TO TAKE PART IN PROTESTING
Party of Socialists Secretary General MP Igor Dodon has called on Gagauzia residents to come to Chisinau and participate in the continuing actions of protest “in order to defend together our common Motherland, our democracy, our human dignity, and our right to remain people, not just pawns in somebody’s hands”, Dodon stated on Tuesday at the 2nd socio-political forum named “Gagauzia 2016: Consistency of Autonomy”, being held in Comrat, the administrative center of the southern Moldovan autonomous region of Gagauzia.
Dodon highly appreciated as a courageous and wise step the holding two years ago of a regional referendum to ask local people’s opinion about the external political course of the Republic of Moldova’s development.
“The people of Gagauzia spoke out their vision of the further fate of whole Moldova, not of part of it. That was not indeed a separatist action. It was a patriotic step made by people who are sincerely concerned about the destiny of their big Motherland – the Republic of Moldova”, said Dodon, and voiced indignation that even such a consultative opinion poll, having no legal force or legal consequences, caused Chisinau’s irritation, “and Moldovan judicial bodies, fully controlled by Plahotniuc, tried to prevent and prohibit that plebiscite”.
The PSRM leader reminded that two years before, over 98% residents of Gagauzia voted for Moldova’s accession to the Customs Union [of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, known since January 1, 2015 as the Eurasian Economic Union, EAES], “i.e. for the geopolitical vector supported by the PSRM as well”.
Dodon stressed that the Party of Socialists “shall never give up its strategic objective of Eurasian integration, and shall never turn away from this path”.
“The oligarchic authorities, who have captured our country, and their Western patrons want to drive us all into a cattle stall. They want to impose on us the decisions they have already taken in their narrow circle of interested persons or forces. But this shall never happen again! Since now on, not a single serious decision will be taken without the Moldovan people’s approval”, stated the Party of Socialists leader.
