EU CAN’T PERCEIVE AS NORMAL A SITUATION WHEN CONTEST FOR ESSENTIAL STATE POST IS HELD FOR ONLY ONE CANDIDATE – AUSTREVICIUS

10 february, 2016

The European Union stands for participation of as much candidates as possible in contests on filling critical state vacancies, Petras Austrevicius, a member of the European Parliament Committee for Foreign Affairs and a Co-Rapporteur on the Association Agreement, stated following his meeting with Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip here on Wednesday.

The Euro-parliamentarian said that the European Union is expecting from the Moldovan authorities efficient reforms in all spheres, de-politicization of state institutions, and economy liberalization.

Petras Austrevicius believes Moldova needs to put into life a sound program of reforms because the country will be judged about by results in hands, and not by promises in the air.

“The faster you will be taking decisions, the sooner the European Union will assume a concrete position on you. You should abide by your commitments and maintain dialog. You should investigate thefts in the Moldovan banking sector and depoliticize all public institutions, particularly the law enforcement”, said the European parliamentarian.

According to him, the European Union is expecting the IMF mission’s visit to Chisinau, and the signature of a new program of cooperation with the International Monetary Fund will mean international trust in Moldova and its new government.

Premier Filip said that Moldova strongly counts on European support, and his government will be doing its utmost to return the foreign partners’ trust.

“We realize that everybody will be judging not by our words, but by our deeds. We shall do all we can to restore the trust of our citizens and foreign partners. Our work priorities are: the maintenance of the country’s European course, implementation of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement, and overcoming of the current crisis”, said the prime minister.

As already reported by Infotag, on February 9 the Superior Council of Magistrates approved incumbent Supreme Court Chairperson Mihai Poalelungi as candidate for this high post once again, despite the vociferous protests and indignation by the Moldovan public. The Council stated in its justification that, unfortunately, there had been no other applicants for the post. The opposition would not listen to such fairy tales, claiming that Poalelungi had no rivals due to only one reason: he is a man from oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc’s nearest surrounding.
