OPPOSITION RESIGNS ITSELF TO THE THOUGHT THAT THERE WILL BE NO EARLY PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION

26 may, 2016

The Moldovan opposition seems to have accepted the obvious truth that there will be no early parliamentary election in Moldova this year, so the incumbent legislature will work until the end of its mandate in late 2018, Party of Socialists Secretary General Igor Dodon wrote in the social networks on Thursday.

Reasoning upon why all other opposition deputies, except Socialists, refused to back the PSRM-proposed draft Resolution on voting no-confidence in the Government, Dodon wrote: “It’s a pity. The number of true opposition politicians in the current Parliament is shrinking. But this Parliament is not forever. An election will come soon”.

Answering journalists’ questions in the Parliament Building on Thursday, Dodon pointed out the fact that not a single deputy from the opposition Communist and Liberal Democratic Parties have put signatures under the above-mentioned draft Resolution.

“The document was signed by all the 24 members of the parliamentary Socialist faction. But this is not sufficient for registration of the draft with the Parliament Secretariat. Two more signatures are need. I have talked to the Liberal Democrats and Communists. We have made the correction in the Resolution text, which they had proposed. But all the same nobody of them signed it. I don't know who scared them more – Americans or oligarchs. But we have what we have now”, said Igor Dodon.

He stressed that the Socialists will wait until tomorrow.

“If the necessary 2 signatures appear, then already on June 1 the Government will be supposed to come to the Parliament. Honestly, I can’t understand these childish games: the Liberal Democrats have been insisting for several weeks already that the Government must present its work report in parliament, but they would not sign the Resolution. Sign it, and the Government shall have to come to parliament, so you can put any questions to ministers”, said the PSRM Chairman.

In his words, if the draft Resolution fails to be signed minimum by a quarter of MPs (26), the Socialists will stand up with other initiatives.

“We will be summoning to parliament one minister of government every week and hearing their reports. But if we really have to use such way, then we will know that there are no more opposition forces in the Moldovan Parliament except Socialists”, said Igor Dodon.
