​GERMAN FOREIGN MINISTER COMING TO DISCUSS TRANSNISTRIA SETTLEMENT ISSUES

On Tuesday, July 26, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier will pay a flying visit to Chisinau as the Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

The high guest will hold meetings with Moldovan Parliament Chairman Andrian Candu, Prime Minister Pavel Filip, Moldova’s Political Representative at the Transnistria negotiations, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Affairs Gheorghe Balan, and with representatives of the 5+2 negotiating format on Transnistria. May be, Frank-Walter Steinmeier will hold a conversation with Transnistria’s chief negotiator, the region’s acting minister of foreign affairs Vitaly Ignatiev. All these meetings will be organized at the Chisinau Office of the OSCE Mission to Moldova.

Speaker Candu stated in the Parliament today that on Monday, July 25, the “special parliamentary platform” will hold a meeting on the Transnistrian problem to be attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Affairs Gheorghe Balan. Candu emphasized that the platform meeting will be held in the context of the visit of Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The German foreign minister is coming to Moldova to promote the restarting of regular negotiations on Transnistrian conflict settlement, which is one of the principally important missions of the German OSCE Presidency in 2016. Steinmeier is intending to propose to hold a round of 5+2 format negotiations in Berlin next September.
