MOLDOVANS NEED TO HAVE A “MOLDOVAN DREAM”, SAYS COORDINATOR PLAHOTNIUC

21 octomber, 2016

The First Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova, the so-called “Executive Coordinator” of the Moldovan ruling coalition Vlad Plahotniuc believes that his compatriots “need to have a Moldovan dream”, he wrote in the article published in The Hill publication (USA).

Plahotniuc wrote that for 25 years since independence declaration, Moldovans keep arguing about “who of the neighbors should become our closest ally – instead of establishing order at our own home”.

He expressed regret that instead of this, some politicians are calling Moldova back under Russia’s influence, while others are nostalgically demanding unification with Romania.

“Meanwhile, a majority of Moldova citizens firmly support the consolidation of our relations with the European Union because this is the best way to modernize our economy, to strengthen democracy and acquire new friends in the West – without breaking up our relations in the East. Instead of looking at Russia, Romania or even at the European Union, we must follow a Moldovan dream – we need a plan”, stated the “Coordinator”.

In his opinion, Moldova should cease looking for quick solutions from the outside and, instead, “should concentrate on determining tasks for working our own identity and a common vision of our future”.

“Our unifying idea may be the creation of an up-to-date Moldova with a powerful economy, many jobs and a growing middle class. Such a project will let unite people irrespective of their ideologies, geopolitical preferences or [ethnic] identity”, presumes the “Executive Coordinator”.

Plahotniuc stressed that the Moldovan Government is working on this and is aimed at a concrete result, but the Moldovan presidential campaign is going on in the conditions of population division along geopolitical lines.

In his words, the October 30 presidential election will determine Moldova’s further course: depending on whom citizens elect, the country will either continue its course for the European Union or will turn around and go back into the sphere of Russia’s influence.

Plahotniuc spoke out for continuation of the reforms agreed upon with Brussels and aimed at approximation with the European Union.
