CAC MEETS INQUIRY ON DEREGISTERING RAVNOPRAVIYE CANDIDATE

24 octomber, 2016

On Friday, the Chisinau Appeals Court met the Central Election Commission’s inquiry on annulling the registration of Inna Popenco of the Ravnopraviye [Equal Rights] Socio-Political Movement as a presidential candidate.

A CEC spokesman told the press after the Court session that the Chisinau Appeals Court “agreed with the presented evidences of the violations committed by presidential candidate Inna Popenco”.

“Popenco used undeclared financial means – in particular in the interests of the youth organization “For Orhei!”. Also, the court perceived as an act of voter corrupting the distribution among pensioners of discount cards (bearing the candidate’s electoral emblem) for visiting the so-called ‘social shops’ in Orhei town”, said the representative.

Inna Popenco perceived the CAC judgment as the Court’s agreement with the CEC-run repressions against her as an election rival.

“Accusations against me are sheer inventions. The social-shop project was launched yet one year ago i.e. long before the very presidential election idea appeared as such. Pensioners are being deprived of what the State must have provided for them. I wonder how much malice and hatred has appeared around the shop project! But no matter my remaining in the election campaign or not, we shall continue the opening of such low-price shops for pensioners across the republic, and their number will be minimum 100”, stated Inna Popenco.

She said that Ravnopraviye shall challenge the CAC judgment with a higher judicial instance – the Supreme Court – within the law-stipulated time of 72 hours.
