CEC APPROVES PRESIDENTIAL BALLOT-PAPERS AND SENDS THEM TO PRINT

24 octomber, 2016

The Moldovan Central Election Commission has approved the final version of ballot-papers to be used at the October 30 presidential election and sent them to printing. Before that, presidential candidates or their proxies put their signatures under the ballot specimen form.

The ballot form was approved finally after the CEC had met last Friday the application submitted by DA Platform Chairman Andrei Nastase, who quitted the electoral marathon in favor of Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) Chairperson Maia Sandu, and after candidate Inna Popenco of the Ravnopraviye [Equal Rights] Socio-Political Movement had been deregistered for violating the electoral legislation.

The ballot-paper will thus have 10 presidential candidates standing in the following order: Democratic Party leader Marian Lupu, Liberal Party Chairman Mihai Ghimpu, Chairman of the European People’s Party of Moldova Iurie Leanca, Our Party candidate Dmitry Ciubasenco, PAS Chairperson Maia Sandu, Party of Socialists leader Igor Dodon, independent Silvia Radu, independent Maya Laguta, The Right party leader Anna Gutu, and independent Valeriu Ghiletchi.

Due to the reduction of the number of candidates to 10 from 12, the ballot-paper form has also diminished to 303 millimeters long from the previous 348 mm.

The CEC has ordered to print 3,132,427 ballots, of which nearly one million will be in Russian and the rest in the Romanian language.
