​PREMIER FILIP BELIEVES MOLDOVA HAS RETURNED TO NORMAL DEVELOPMENT OF RELATIONSHIP WITH EU

Prime Minister Pavel Filip met with EU Council President Donald Tusk in Brussels on Monday and stated that, in his opinion, Moldova has returned to a normal development of relationship with the European Union.

According to the Moldovan governmental press service, Filip and Tusk discussed political situation in Moldova and priorities of its European agenda after Moldova has fulfilled its roadmap of reforms.

The Prime Minister reiterated that a maximum-possible mobilization of all forces is necessary to ensure an efficient implementation of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement.

In his turn, Donald Tusk assessed Moldova’s results and endeavors to achieve the goals set. He said: “As long as Moldova is interested to promote reforms, you may count on my personal backing and on the European institutions’ support”.

Maros Sevcovic, the Vice-President of the European Commission, in charge of Energy Union, stated in the course of his meeting with the Prime Minister of Moldova that the European Union is supporting Moldova’s efforts to consolidate the country’s energy potential and will continue the support for modernization of the republic’s energy sector.

Pavel Filip highly appreciated the support being rendered by the European Union for Moldova’s accession to the European network of natural gas and electricity transportation. He assured that the Government of Moldova will be further attaching a particular attention to the country’s energy security, to realization of projects aimed at energy efficiency, and to the using of renewable energy sources.

Commissioner Sevcovic highlighted the importance for Moldova to adopt a new Law on Energy in a final reading in strict accordance with the Energy Community’s recommendations that are called to fix in Moldova the Third Energy Package and consolidate the independence of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE). He confirmed that the European Union stands ready to render financial assistance to the project of extension of the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline until Chisinau.

In the course of his visit to Brussels, Prime Minister Pavel Filip met on Monday with Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commission Vice-President for the Euro and Social Dialog. The interlocutors discussed the socio-economic situation in Moldova and the consequences of the signature of a new memorandum with the International Monetary Fund for Moldova’s economic development.

“Besides already taken measures, the Government of Moldova is going to implement a program of complex-like reforms to consolidate economic development and transparency and to reduce existing risks”, said Pavel Filip, presenting the measures to support a budget balance in the conditions of reforms.

Valdis Dombrovskis reaffirmed that the European Union is ready to support the Moldovan reforms, including by means of furnishing a grant and a credit to underpin the payment balance of the Republic of Moldova.
