OP INDIGNANT AT DETENTION OF BASARABEASCA MAYOR

17 march, 2017

Basarabeasca Town Mayor Valentin Cimpoies, elected to this post on the ticket of the Partidul Nostru [Our Party], was detained by the police on Friday in his work office on the eyes of many employees and visitors of the Town Primaria [local executive authority].

According to the Ministry of the Interior General Police Inspectorate, Cimpoies was detained on suspicion of service negligence, which allegedly led to the sexual exploitation of a girl under age. In the framework of this case, the police detained three more persons.

The investigation, carried out by the Center for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and by the Anti-Corruption Prosecution Service, established that in 2015-2016, a 45-year-old citizen of Basarabeasca was forcing his daughter aged 13 to go in for prostitution.

“Despite numerous signals about what was happening in that family, the local authorities did not take necessary measures to prevent the abuse of the girl. In this connection, a criminal litigation was started on charges of service negligence, and Cimpoies was detained for 72 hours. Yet before that, the police detained the girl’s father and two men, who had sexual contacts with the girl under age”, said the GPI press release.

Valentin Cimpoies was elected Mayor of Basarabeasca in June 2015, when 62% citizens voted for the representative of Our Party. The OP has perceived his detention as a political case invented to order.

Our Party Deputy Chairman Nicolae Tipovici stated today that this is but a new political reprisal undertaken against the party by the Plahotniuc authorities demonstratively before the broad public on the eve of the party’s congress to be held on March 18.

“The purpose of the reprisals is to intimidate Our Party activists and our supporters. Not long ago, our democratic authorities placed into custody a member of the National Council of Our Party Nicolae Hacico and OP municipal councilor in the village of Vatra, Felix Grincu. I myself spent 4 months in prison in 2014 under an invented pretext, but nobody was brought to responsibility for all this. What is happening in Moldova currently is but an overt lawlessness”, believes Nicolae Tipovici.

According to the Our Party press release, during the detention procedure and in the course of the heated conversation with the uniformed gentlemen, Mayor Cimpoies felt unwell, so an ambulance team had to be summoned for him. Meanwhile, local residents started gathering in the Primaria, demanding explanations from the police concerning their respected Mayor.

Renato Usatii, Partidul Nostru [Our Party] leader and the Mayor of Balti city, hiding in Moscow from what he calls “the Plahotniuc justice of Moldova” since August 2016, named the charges put forward against Cimpoies “a sheer delirium”.

“The Mayor of Basarabeasca is being accused for his failure to prevent the sexual harassment by the father against his daughter in a local Gypsy family. Plahotniuc seems to have gone finally insane. All the developments are but a new fit of his mental illness. And our European partners are watching all this silently and without an objection, thus presenting themselves and the European Union as a whole in far from the best light. Why the Basarabeasca Mayor was detained exactly today? Because tomorrow Our Party will hold its congress. One more thing: today the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) has pushed up the electricity rate, so it is necessary to somehow distract the public attention from this sad news”, stated the opposition politician.
