CONSTITUTIONAL COURT CONFIRMS MANDATE OF NEW LDPM PARLIAMENTARIAN

21 march, 2017

The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova has today approved the mandate of Liberal Democratic MP Alexandru Barbarosie, who stated he would become a LDPM faction member and will take the place of Deputy Chiril Lucinschi, who resigned from the Parliament last month, left the Liberal Democratic Party and quitted politics.

A month ago, another Liberal Democrat from the party’s waiting list, Simion Grisciuc, came to the Parliament to fill the vacancy that had remained after the departure LDPM ex-Chairman Vlad Filat, who is serving a 9-year prison term for corruption and abuse of position. However, upon receiving the mandate, Grisciuc divorced the Liberal Democratic faction and joined the Democrats-led ruling coalition, though de jure he is remaining a non-aligned deputy.

Unlike him, Barbarosie has stated he would be a member of the LDPM faction, which will thus have 10 members. Now Barbarosie must officially resign as Chairman of the Anenii Noi Raion.

In early February, Alexandru Barbarosie stated an intention to sue President Igor Dodon in court for his accusing the Raion Chairman of being a suspect in several criminal litigations on charges of money laundering and other offences. In reply, Barbarosie stated that he had received an official confirmation from the Prosecutor General’s Office saying that all accusations against him had been not true, so now he is intending to demand through the court apologies from President Dodon.
