PRESIDENT DODON TO ADDRESS FOR CITIZENS’ SUPPORT OF HIS INITIATIVES

23 march, 2017

Moldovan President Igor Dodon stated he would address to the people of Moldova with a request to back his initiatives, he wrote on his Facebook page today, reviewing the results of his first 3 months at the presidential post.

Dodon believes that over such a short period of time, quite much was done, but the chief thing achieved was the revival of the population’s trust in the institution of president lost after 2009.

He wrote that out of the initiatives he offered to the Parliament and the society, some have to be adopted and put into life urgently.

“These are the initiatives badly wanted by broad population masses, including e.g. the annulment of the “law on the stolen billion” and amendment of the Constitution for announcing snap elections. However, these initiatives were either blocked or ignored by the parliamentary majority controlled by the Democratic Party. In such conditions, I believe there is only one way out – to address directly to the people of Moldova for support. We will do it soon”, wrote the President.

Igor Dodon did not explain in what form he will address to the people. Presenting earlier his initiatives, the new President used to say that if they are rejected by the DP-led Parliament, he will resort to organizing referenda on: canceling the law on the order of returning the stolen billion euros; holding an early parliamentary election; amending the Constitution to invest the President with extra powers for parliament disbandment.

Igor Dodon promised to provide more details at the news conference, which he will give next week on the occasion of the first 100 days of his presidential tenure.
