PREMIER FILIP SAYS THAT PRESIDENT’S POSITION CANNOT INFLUENCE MOLDOVA-ROMANIA RELATIONS

23 march, 2017

Prime Minister Pavel Filip maintains that the position of President Igor Dodon cannot influence the development of relations between Moldova and Romania. He said this At the joint press conference with the Romanian Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu in the Piatra-Neamt city (Romani), where joint meeting of the two countries took place.

“The Republic of Moldova is a parliamentary country, where the Parliament and the Government has more powers. The election of Igor Dodon as President will not affect our relations. On contrary, it will even improve, no matter if someone does not like this”, Filip said.

Answering to journalists’ questions, he said that he sees no reasons for anxiety.

“For Romania, it is the Parliament and the Government that are partners in discussion in Chisinau. The same is for the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank (WB) and other international organizations”, the Moldovan Premier said.

In his turn, Sorin Grindeanu also stressed several times that Romania’s partner in Chisinau is the Government, which has chosen the European path.

“Our interlocutor in Chisinau is the Government, together with which we are implementing concrete, important and real projects. Only the European choice can bring sustainable development and meet people’s expectations. We are supporting the Republic of Moldova on this path, together we are building a European partnership”, the Romanian Premier said.

Asked about the initiative on declaring March 27 a national holiday in honor of the Day of Bessarabia and Romania Unification, Filip said that this is in Parliament’s competence.

“We are building a pragmatic partnership to be in the European Union together”, Filip said.
