…BUT SOCIALISTS DECIDE THE OTHER WAY ROUND

23 march, 2017

Deputies from the Party of Socialists (PSRM) shall attend the next week’s Saint Petersburg Session of the CIS Parliamentary Assembly, the PSRM Chairperson and head of the parliamentary Socialist faction Zinaida Grechanaya stated to the press on Thursday.

Grechanaya said she regards the Parliament Permanent Bureau’s decision as erroneous, so she voted against it at the Bureau meeting today.

“Earlier, the Moldovan Parliament approved the lineup of the Moldovan delegation to the CIS P.A. Session – a step made correctly. According to the known rules, it is not the Permanent Bureau but the Parliament as a whole who must decide concerning the delegation’s participation or not. The more so that this is going to be not a usual Session but a very special, solemn meeting dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the CIS Parliamentary Assembly. The Commonwealth of Independent States is an organization very important for the Republic of Moldova. Therefore, we must participate in its Parliamentary Assembly work as we did last quarter of a century”, stated Zinaida Grechanaya.

She said the PSRM faction believes unambiguously that the Moldovan Parliament must be represented at the Saint Petersburg forum.

“We must participate in this work. The four Socialists – members of the permanent Moldovan delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly – will go to Saint Petersburg even for their own expense. I don't know how the Assembly will perceive the Moldovan representatives – as an official delegation or not, but this is a separate question. We shall go, and shall participate in the work of Assembly standing commissions. The more so that Moldova is now chairing in the CIS PA commission for agriculture and environment”, stated Zinaida Grechanaya, Moldova’s former Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.
