​MOLDOVAN AND UKRAINIAN PRIME MINISTERS DISCUSS COOPERATION AND DNIESTER RIVER PROTECTION

Heads of the Moldovan and Ukrainian Governments Pavel Filip and Vladimir Groysman discussed the issues concerning bilateral cooperation and the protection of the Dniester River ecosystem. According to the Government’s press service, the meeting took place within Filip’s visit to Kiev, where he participated in the Monday’s meeting of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development (GUAM) member countries.

According to the press release, during the meeting, the two premiers discussed issues, concerning mutual recognition of property rights, finalization of the process of border demarcation and establishing of conditions of using the Dniester hydro-energetic complex. For protecting the Dniester River ecosystem, the heads of two countries’ governments intend to sign a joint address to the European Commission for help in identifying mutually profitable solutions on Dniester exploitation. This decision was taken back in the previous visit of Pavel Filip to Kiev in mid-February, but the address has not been signed yet.

Besides, Pavel Filip and Vladimir Groysman discussed the coordination of actions, necessary for starting joint control at customs stations, including at Cuciurgan-Pervomaisk and Palanka-Mayaki-Udobnoe checkpoints, as well as opening of automobile movement between the localities Unguri and Bronnita in the north of Moldova.

Pavel Filip pointed at the importance of conducting the 14th sitting of the Moldova-Ukraine Inter-Governmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation, stressing that this will allow strengthening the bilateral partnership and establishing new opportunities for cooperation in different fields. Vladimir Groysman said that the protocol on free trade in the GUAM space will be stimulating the cooperation within the organization and will be contributing to creation of new jobs.

During his visit to Kiev, Pavel Filip, together with his colleagues from GUAM member countries met with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, as well as with Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili. Discussions with the Georgian Premier concerned strengthening of bilateral relations and development of Moldova-Georgia partnership at the bilateral level and within international organizations.
