BAROMETER FINDINGS: ONLY TWO PARTIES, PSRM AND PAS, ARE STRONG ENOUGH TO WIN SEATS IN MOLDOVAN PARLIAMENT

28 april, 2017

Had a parliamentary election been held in Moldova next Sunday, only two political parties would be able to win presence in the Moldovan Parliament – the Party of Socialists (PSRM, with 33.6% ballots) and the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS, with 24.8%), as per the findings of the Public Opinion Barometer carried out by the CBS-AXA Center for Sociological Researches and Marketing on the request of the Institute for Public Policy (IPP).

Such Barometer researches have been made every 6 months for more than 10 years now. The Barometer is reputed to be the most objective and accurate one among all the rest opinion researches in Moldova.

According to it, the rest parties would not be able to clear the 6% electoral barrier to the legislative forum, even if to exclude the 23% respondents who were uncertain about their preferences or stated they would not go to the polls.

The PSRM and PAS are also maintaining lead in terms of the level of trust among citizens: each of the organizations is trusted by 38% interviewed citizens. Following next are the political party called Platform Demnitate si Adevar [DA, “Dignity and Justice”] – 25%, Our Party – 19%, the Communist Party (MCP) – 17%, the European People’s Party of Moldova (EPPM) – 12%, and the Democratic Party – 9%.

At the bottom of the trust rating are the political party of Ilan Shor, the Liberal Party and the Liberal Democratic Party – all trusted by less than 10% respondents.

Among politicians, the highest trust is with President Igor Dodon – 32%, who is followed by PAS leader Maia Sandu – 17%, DA Platform Chairman Andrei Nastase – 3.2%, Prime Minister Pavel Filip – 2.2%, Partidul Nostru [Our Party] leader Renato Usatii – 1.5%, and Communist Party Chairman Vladimir Voronin – 1.3%.

The Barometer research was carried out on April 16-23 among 1,100 respondents residing permanently in 80 populated areas across the country.
