PAS PARTY CALLS ON MOLDOVANS TO COME PROTESTING ON MAY 14

12 may, 2017

Leaders of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) called on Moldovan citizens to come out for protest action in Chisinau on May 14.

At the Friday’s press conference, PAS Chairwoman Maia Sandu said that the May 5 Parliament decision on transiting to mixed voting system is a proof of collusion between Vlad Plahotniuc and Igor Dodon.

“Their single goal is to stay in power by all means. The loss of influence for Plahotniuc means loss of freedom. He has nowhere to run from Moldova, he got into trap and all citizens became his hostages. He wants to transform the republic into a state of terror once and for all”, she said.

According to her, the DP and the PSRM have a huge mechanism made of media with republican coverage, pocket civil society and expert circles. Plahotniuc even hired American experts from the company Burson-Marsteller to prove advantages of uninominal voting system in Brussels.

“Citizens are again tried to be convinced that honesty means nothing and that each has to play according to the rules, established by Plahotniuc. But he and his entourage are simple thieves, who are smiling and stealing at the same time. We, as citizens, should understand that if we do not change anything now, we will never do it. If we lose the right to choice, we will lose everything”, Sandu said, stressing that the May 14 protest is a rally not of political parties, but all people, who want to see their representatives in the Parliament.

PAS Secretary General Igor Grosu said that party members are already summoned to the Information and Security Service, police officers are visiting houses and threatening with consequences for participation in the protest.

“But we should not be afraid. Plahotniuc and Dodon should understand that they crossed all boundaries and it is impossible to go further”, he stressed.

PAS Deputy Chairwoman Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei said that the Party wants not to change the state system, but to remove Plahotniuc and Dodon.

According to Maia Sandu, everyone who comes to protest, will be doing the right thing.

“We should know that citizens may peacefully change the life in Moldova to better”, she said.
