DPM PRESS SERVICE CONFIRMS ONLY ONE DAY LATER INFOTAG’S INFORMATION ABOUT PLAHOTNIUC’S VOYAGE TO AMERICA

18 may, 2017

It was only on Thursday that the Democratic Party press service has confirmed that DP Chairman Vlad Plahotniuc is visiting the United States.

The service wrote that Plahotniuc has been scheduled to have meetings in the US Congress, the Department of State, in the National Security Council and other institutions.

So, the DP press service confirmed only one day later the Infotag’s story of Wednesday about their party leader’s visiting Washington. But on Wednesday, the DP headquarters stated “we are not commenting on this information”, and refused to confirm or refute it.

However, the First Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Party, Parliament Chairman Andrian Candu refuted in public the information about Plahotniuc’s visit.

“As far as I know, at the moment Vlad Plahotniuc is in his work room, which is not at all in America”, Candu stated to journalists yesterday.

However, already on Wednesday evening the independent.md published information and some details about Vlad Plahotniuc’s flight to the United States. According to the publication, Plahotniuc flew to America on May 16 by a charter flight Chisinau-Washington on board a Boeing 737-7BC BBJ airplane. According to the flightradar24.com website, which monitors all passenger airplanes while in the air, the flight lasted nearly 11 hours. The plane belongs to Privajet company of Malta. Its crew of 6 includes two stewardesses and a cook. The air vessel can carry maximum 19 passengers. One hour of flight costs US$30,000. The independent.md was quick to calculate that the flight there and back should cost about US$660,000 and the entire voyage of the Plahotniuc delegation across the ocean – not less than a million dollars.

According to the preliminary information available with Infotag, the program of Plahotniuc’s several-day-long voyage is quite busy. The Moldovan ruling coalition coordinator is scheduled to meet with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Bridget A. Brink as well as other officials from the U.S. Department of State and the Congress. He will have meetings also with the heads of some non-governmental organizations and institutions. He will hold a meeting with journalists, and will give interviews for several internationally renowned media outlets.

On Thursday, the DP press service promised to be providing information about Plahotniuc’s meetings in the course of the visit.
